NDDC Assures Equitable Treatment in all Communities of the Niger Delta Region

…As Commission Embarks on Execution of Bonny Ring Road, Others.

The Director of Community and Rural Development of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engr. Theophilus Allagoa, has announced that under the present leadership of the NDDC, no community will be left behind in the scheme of things. He explained that all communities in the Niger Delta region would be treated fairly by the Commission.

Allagoa, who disclosed this recently when a delegation of Niger Delta groups from Bonny, led by the Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Bonny, Mr. Victor Ibaningo, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt, assured the people of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State that the Commission will complete all ongoing projects and initiate new ones on the island. He added that the Commission is also engaging with relevant stakeholders to streamline projects meant for Bonny to avoid duplication of efforts.

Speaking further, Allagoa urged them to exercise patience, emphasizing that Bonny Island deserves the attention of relevant stakeholders given its strategic importance. He stated that the Bonny Ring Road and other projects were already receiving attention, with discussions ongoing.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Bonny, Mr. Victor Ibaningo, who was accompanied by Emmanuel Bristol-Alagbarigha, former Secretary General of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Peter Kaladappa, Commander of the Ijaw Defense Council (IDC), and Precious Jumbo, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Bonny Chapter, drew the NDDC’s attention to the plight of the Bonny people.

However, he expressed dismay that, despite Bonny’s considerable contributions to the nation’s economy, especially to the NDDC, the Local Government Area lacked sufficient Federal Government development footprints. He urged the Commission to review its disposition towards the area.

Moreover, he pleaded with the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to ensure that Bonny Local Government Area is not shortchanged in the Commission’s project distribution.
