Ensure that the Cocoa sector contributes to Abia IGR, Engr. Emetu tasks CFAN
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. lkechukwu Emetu, has charged the members of the state chapter of Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, CFAN to work towards ensuring that the Cocoa sector contribute significantly in the Internally Generated Revenue IGR of the State.
The Deputy Governor who gave the task during a meeting with CFAN in his office in Umuahia, expressed disappointment in the activities of some stakeholders in the industry
Furthermore, he reiterated Government’s stand to improve the welfare of Cocoa farmers in the state.
Speaking, the state Chairman, Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria CFAN, Mr. John K Kalu while lamenting on the negative effect of the activities of middlemen in the industry, pleaded with the state government to help Cocoa farmers in the state to achieve maximum benefits in the Cocoa agricultural sector.
Mr. Kalu also thanked the Deputy Governor Engr Emetu in his efforts to reposition the state Cocoa Industry and pleaded with the state government to help the farmers map out their Cocoa farms in government reserves.
The event attracted the presence of the Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, members of CFAN among others.
