Abia State Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti, has signed into law the Greater Ohafia Development Agency (GODA) Bill, as passed into Law by the State House of Assembly.
The law which is in line with the present Administration’s commitment to drive the even and accelerated development of all parts of the state aims aims to harness the Abia North Senatorial economic potential through efficient planning and resource allocation.
Following the bill’s enactment, Governor Otti announced the formation of a five member Board, with Prof Awa Kalu SAN as Chairman.
Other Members of the Board which will oversee the agency’s activities, include;Engr. Obinna Odum – Director General, Dr. Onyinye Rufus-Obi, Surv. Ike Orika and Chief Johnson Chukwu.
Speaking shortly after assenting to the bill, the Governor expressed high expectations for GODA, which he envisions as a catalyst for rapid growth in the Abia North Senatorial zone.
“GODA will serve as a robust institutional vehicle for the rapid socio-economic transformation of the Abia North Senatorial District of the State“, Gov Otti stated.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to work closely with relevant stakeholders to evolve a governance system that will put all parts of Abia on the path of speedy and non-stop development.
Present at the brief ceremony were the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Ikechukwu Uwanna, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Legislative Affairs, Hon. Luke Ukara Onyeani, and other government officials..
