Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has underscored the place of morals, virtues and norms towards building a strong institution.
Gov. Fubara disclosed this at the inauguration of the Governing Council of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori and the Board of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement at Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday.
The governor charged the Governing Council of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic to ensure that order is maintained especially in resolving the issues of cultism and unprofessional conducts of both the academic and non-academic staff so as to restore the glory of the institution.
“We want you to work hard for that institution, most especially as it is your own, you are from there. When that place was established, a lot of people couldn’t graduate from that Polytechnic, and they normally go to other Polytechnics to graduate because the standards were very high. Let’s restore the glory of that Institution.”
On the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement, Gov. Fubara tasked the Board to be more prudent in scrutinizing and evaluating project cost as the State is managing the lean resources available to it in order to provide the required development, stressing that the Board must ensure value for money in all the projects as a vital unit of the government.
“The Governing Council and the Board of Bureau on Public Procurement that we have inaugurated today are very vital to this government, especially the Bureau. You understand the challenges we are having, lack of sufficient funds to carry out meaningful projects in our dear State. I want to charge you to be very objective, scrutinize thoroughly and ensure that there is value for money.”
The governor while congratulating the members of the two Boards challenged them to do their best for the State by working assiduously so as to be remembered for their contributions to the development of the State and assured them of the support of his administration to enable them to succeed.
“We have to work as if this government is ending tomorrow. And working that way is putting your all, doing what is right so that when we leave the office people will remember us for what we have done. I want everyone of you to be professional. I can assure you that we will give you all the necessary support to make sure you succeed.”
On her part the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Prof. Roseline Konya commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for appointing them and assured that the Council will work in line with the instructions to restore the glory of the institution.
She noted that Gov. Fubara is God sent to liberate Rivers State with all his human impact projects across all sectors in the State.
Speaking also, the Chairman of the Board of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement, Mr. Lawrence Oko-Jaja, SAN, thanked the governor for the privilege to serve the State and assured that as an important aspect of governance they will discharge the responsibilities given to them in order to win the confidence of both investors and contractors and do the State proud.
Members of the Governing Council of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori include Prof. Roseline Konya as chairman, Chief Monday Lette Akpa, Dr. Emmanuel Gogo-Nte, Barr. Tonia Alaputa, Mr. Nnamdi C. Ake, Engr. Dr. Lucky Amadi, Egbo Kpaniku and Alabo Christian Finebone as members.
The Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement include Barr. Lawrence Oko-Jaja as Chairman, Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mrs. Mina Ogbanga, Engr. Iseleye Amachree, Engr. Adokiye Oyagiri, Engr. Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs. Grace Osaronu and Barr. Selinah Amonieah as members.
