The office of the wife of the governor of Abia State, in partnership with the Federal government of Nigeria, has started distributing palliatives to orphans and the destitute in Abia State to commemorate World Food Day.
Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia state, spoke at the state ministry of agriculture in Umuahia, the state capital, during an event with the theme ‘Nourishing Orphans and the Destitute’. She mentioned that by providing food support to the must vulnerable in the state, the initiative is aimed at alleviating the impact of economic challenges
Mrs. Otti acknowledged that the federal government is aware of the current food insecurity and the increasing food prices in the country. She expressed that the government is collaborating with relevant stakeholders in the food value chain to tackle this challenge.
She called for patience and assured the vulnerable groups that their request would be granted.
According to her, “we truly acknowledge the prevailing economic hardship; a situation that has denied many families fair living standards, increased debt and bankrupcy, this situation is indeed ugly, and we can not allow it to continue,”

To the vulnerable in Abia state, our aim today is to reduce hunger and malnutrition, support you, offering you hope and assurance by reducing the stress and anxiety related to food insecurity.
However, Mrs. Otti urged all compassionate individuals, religious institutions, and non-governmental organizations to rise and take up the challenge against hunger and poverty by supporting the vulnerable in society.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix said that the palliative distribution and support to the vulnerable groups is the government resolve to ensure that no child goes hungry.
She commended Mrs. Otti and the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for supporting the vulnerable groups adding that their vision resonates with the ministry’s efforts to fight food insecurity.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa states that this act of kindness is in line with the vision of Governor Alex Otti for Abia state by ensuring that no group is left behind in the state.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Clifford Agbaeze said that going forward Abia will be sufficient in food production and will no longer be in the league of states receiving palliatives.
Reverend Kenneth Nwaubani of Amaudo Integrated Community Mental Health Foundation Itumbauzo Bende, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the wife of the Governor for promoting inclusivity and support to the vulnerable groups.
In the meantime, some of the orphanage and destitute homes that benefits from the palliative distributions are So Said Charity Home Foundation Ubakala, Heritage Life Support Nsulu, Living Hope Rehabilitation Home Ndume, Nwamaka Motherless Home Aba, Princess Motherless Home Aba, Amaudo Integrated Community Mental Health Foundation Itumbauzo Bende, Special School for the Blind Afara, Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Compassionate Home Ahiaeke, St. Vincent de Paul Umuafai, Susana Home Ukwa West.
Others are Uzuakoli Leprosy Centre, Uzuakoli Motherless Babies Home, Agape Charity Home, Queen Esther Motherless Home and SDA Orphanage Home Ogbor Hill Aba.
