Always hand over defaulters to the state Environmental Mobile Court for prosecution, ABSG advises NPF


Abia State government has expressed dismay with the actions of some uniform personnel serving in the state who arrest defaulters, take them to their stations and allegedly obtain from them.

The House Committee Chairman on Environment, and member representing Ohafia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr Kalu Mba Nwoke, who made his feelings known while monitoring the month of September sanitation exercise in parts of the state, advised such uniform personnel to always hand over defaulters to the state Environmental Mobile Court for prosecution.

According to him, monies generated from defaulters should be paid into the state coffers to increase it’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

He charged them to work in synergy with the state Ministry of Environment in future exercise.

The Lawmaker promised to bring the issue up at the floor of the State House of Assembly for appropriate resolution to be moved on it .

Mr. Nwoke, who also maintained that markets in the state are part of Governor Alex Otti administration’s priority projects, commended traders at Orie-Ugba market in Umuahia for their compliance and charged them to maintain the improvement recorded today.

He also harped on the need for a clean and healthy environment to prevent the spreed of communicable diseases.

Also speaking, the Abia State Commissioner of Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, represented by the Director in Charge, of the ministry, Reverend Udochukwu Joseph, commended Abia residents for effective compliance, and the leadership of Ugba community for enforcing the exercise in the market.

Reverend Joseph stressed the need for intra state motorists to adhere strictly to the Abia State Environmental Laws by not plying into the city center during the period of the exercise.
