Free medical services: Abia to establish 200 primary health centres across the 17 LGAs

Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, has encouraged residents of Etitiala Autonomous Community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State to take full advantage of the 3-day free medical services offered by the state government at the SDG Multi-Purpose Hospital to enhance their lives.

Mrs. Otti, who was present to monitor the exercise, also took a tour of the 100-bed hospital to determine its readiness in handling medical emergencies.

She said that the SDG Multi-Purpose Hospital in Ugwunagbo is a clear indication that Governor Otti and the federal government are dedicated to providing quality healthcare for the people of Abia in alignment with SDG 3, which aims to ensure quality health and well-being for everyone.

According to Mrs. Otti, today’s event marks a crucial milestone in our dedication and collective effort to enhance access to healthcare services, improve health outcomes, and promote the overall well-being of our communities as Governor Otti has announced the establishment of 200 primary health centres across the 17 LGAs of the state.

“This gesture of free medical outreach for 3 days, I believe, will lead us towards better healthcare and better lives for our people”.

Beside this, the Governor has concluded that under the state healthcare insurance scheme, those above 70 years, children below 5 years and pregnant women should be free.

In their remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ogbonnaya Uche, and the CEO, hospital management board, Dr. Odochi Azubuike, emphasized that within these three days, patients will receive special free services and attention in such areas as eye care, prenatal care, pediatrics, medicine, laboratory tests, and surgery from highly qualified medical practitioners.

“Come here, stick to the guidelines, and cooperate with the medical experts because this outreach is to ensure health services are closer to you” they said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA, Mr. Emeka Nosike expressed his gratitude to Governor Otti and the federal government of Nigeria for improving the quality of healthcare services to residents in Ugwunagbo LGA.
