Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction of the Umuahia Mega Bus Terminal, a flagship project of his administration aimed at modernizing the state capital.
Speaking during the inspection, following a church service at Dunamis Church, Finbars Street, Umuahia, the Governor also identified areas that require minor adjustments.
Governor Otti who praised the performance of the contractors stated, “I think the contractors are doing very well. they have been known to perform very well. They are working according to schedule
“But then, there are a few areas that I observed that they have to go back and make some adjustments. We needed the roads to be wider than they are with the junction improvement and the traffic lights. So, I have asked them to stop around the Cooperative roundabout so that we can take a look at it again”.
“But, so far, so good. I am impressed with the quality of work”.
The Governor explained some of the features of the Mega Bus Terminal and what it intends to achieve when completed, pointing out that it aims to replicate a similar successful project in Oshodi, Lagos State.
“Exactly what they did in Oshodi is what we want to replicate here. The Railway, the Buses, everything will terminate here. Shopping Centers, Hotels, just where people can come, meet, and have fun, children’s playground, everything will be here”, Otti said.
The Governor further disclosed that the project would help organize the Capital City, eliminate the current proliferation of smaller parks throughout the city as well as centralize transport operations and provide ample space for businesses, including hotels, shopping plazas, and recreational facilities.
He acknowledged that while the project may not generate immediate revenue, its long-term benefits will be significant and emphasized that the terminal will not only serve as a hub for transportation but also as a vibrant commercial and social center.
