August Conference: Amuro women appeal to Abia state government for rural road rehabilitation.

August meeting has been described as a reliable way to attract sustainable projects and development to communities in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.

The Mayor of Ikwuano local government area, Mr. Hyacinth Osinachi Nwaka, announced this at the 2024 annual women’s August conference of Amuro Ibere women in Otuzo Autonomous Community, Ikwuano LGA, which was held at the community primary school in Amuro.

Mayor Nwaka, praised Amuro women for setting the pace in organising the august conference in Ikwuano and urged the women to continue in their unity of purpose and commitment to develop their community.

The Mayor emphasized that Governor Alex Otti is dedicated to transforming Abia into a symbol of hope and progress for women and their children.

He added that the government is also working to ensure that women have greater access to credit facilities so that no woman with a viable business idea is held back.

According to him, ” I have special affinity here and I promise to continue to ensure that government projects like road rehabilitation and other social welfare programmes does not elude the people of Amuro and Otu Uzo Autonomous community”.

In his speech, the member representing Ikwuano state constituency in the Abia state house of assembly, Engr. Boniface Isienyi said that august meetings today has become a gathering where women chart and discuss contemporary issues pertinent to them and proffer solutions on how to better their lives and the society,

He thanked them for supporting him during the election and admonished them to always remain loyal and supportive to thier husband.

Earlier, the woman leader of  Amuro Ibere community, Mrs. Oluchi Igbudu, expressed her gratitude to the attendees at the conference and requested government support for the construction of the community market, borehole, and most importantly, the rehabilitation of the Amawom-Nkalunta rural road.

During his speech at the event, the chairman, Mr. Kenneth Ibeka, thanked the women for acknowledging him and his efforts towards community development.

Ibeka, represented by Mr. Nnaoma Adum, stated that as we have come together today, let us remember that the development of our community is a shared responsibility.

Your deliberations must reflect the progress women are making and will continue to make.

“We are not just participants but key stakeholders in the development of our state”.

Also in their goodwill messages, the President General of Otuzo Development Union, Chief Joseph Ikeogu, and his counterpart, president Amuro Community Development Union, Chief Oliver Aboaja who was represented by Mr. Christian Umekwe commended Amuro community women for making progress despite challenges and urged other communities to emulate them.

Meanwhile, the Eze elect of Otuzo Autonomous Community, Chief Chidi Hyacinth Kalu congratulated the women and advised them to maintain peace at all time adding that Otuzo will witness greater development with all hands are on deck.

The high point of the event witnessed dancing, march-past and cultural display from the women.
