The Police Service Commission has approved the posting of CP Peter Opara as the new Commissioner of Police Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
According the statement issued last Saturday in Abuja , by the Head of press and public Relations of the service commission, Ikechukwu Ani.
However, Opara took over from CP Benneth Igwe, was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and posted to Zone 7 Abuja as the Zonal Assistant Inspector General of police.
Opera was the immediate CP Force Secretary’s office and also former Deputy Commissioner of Administration and finance IMO State Command.
He served as a personal Assistant to the former Chairman of the Police Service Commission,IGP Mike Okiro ( Rtd).
Also was DCP Legal Studies Police Academy. POLAC, Wudil Kano, Area Commander Aba and Uyo; Area Crime Officer kubwa, and Senior Deputy Defence Adviser Police, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York.
CP Opara served as the Personnel Assistant to the Inspector General of Police; DIG works, DIG Operations and Personnel Assistant to CP Lagos State Command.
Similarly ,the commission has also approved the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police,for the four newly Commissioners of police for the state commands of Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom.
Their appointments was signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, and has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for further implementation.
However ,the statement reads,
“DIG Argungu said the Commission will monitor their performance, stressing that they should not waste time to hit the ground running.
“He told the new commissioners that it is their duty to build a competitive, competent and efficient police force in their states of posting, adding that the Commission will continue to encourage them for optimum service delivery.
“He said their appointments should be seen as a call to greater dedication to the service of their fatherland.
“The approval of the postings signed by the Secretary to the Commission Chief Onyemuche Nnamani has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.”
