In observance of the 2024 International Day of Charity, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, has covered the hospital expenses for six financially strapped patients at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia.

Mrs. Otti also assisted more than 300 petty traders in Abia by providing cash to enhance their businesses at Orie-Ugba market in Umuahia, the state capital, Obikabia market, and Ahiaba/ubi market, both located in Isiala Ngwa North local government area
World Charity Day is celebrated annually on September 5th, and it is a global day dedicated to promoting the importance of charity and encouraging individuals to contribute to charitable causes.
This year’s Charity Day focuses on compassion and aims to empower individuals and communities through acts of kindness.
After handing over the proof of payment to the management of Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, Mrs. Otti stated that the gesture aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s administration’s policy to enhance the welfare of the people.
She also urged well-meaning individuals to support the less privileged, particularly during this time of economic challenges.
However, Mrs. Otti, commended the dedication of the management and staff of FMC Umuahia, and encouraged them to continue their selfless service of saving lives.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of FMC Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi thanked Mrs. Otti for her support to the patients.
Professor Azubuike, represented by Dr. Uchenna Adizua said that the presence of the Governor’s wife at the hospital speaks eloquently of her affinity with the masses.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Blessing Ngozi Felix, explained that the beneficiaries of the hospital bills had since been discharged but could not afford the bills until the intervention of the wife of Abia Governor.
One the beneficiaries at Ahiaba/ubi daily market, Mrs, Ahukanna Sunday, said that the support from the wife of the Governor to them means that Mrs. Otti understand the challenges the masses are passing through at this time of economic hardship in the country.
