Gov Diri Reiterates Commitments To Corps Members

The State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has promise to explore ways of enhancing welfare and security to the corps members serving in the state.

Gov. Diri disclosed this during the 2024 Batch B, closing ceremony held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. Also assured to make the state a very comfortable and conducive place for them anytime, anyday.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government/ Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, urged them to concentrate and work hard in achieving their dreams. He also reminded them that service year in Bayelsa will not merely be to fulfil a requirement, but to make a lasting impact through their primary assignment and community development service at large.

He further encourage the state to always welcome corps members, make them feel at home by teaching them their language and culture. Also to be role models to other youths, students and pupils and teach them to be responsible future leaders and good citizens.

He welcomed them to the state, congratulated them for a successful orientation course, wished them a satisfying service year and declared the programme closed.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, earlier urged the corps members to promptly report to their respective places of primary assignments and settle down for national service in the state. And warned them against engaging in actions that will put their lives in danger and affect their service year negatively.

She highlighted the four cardinal programmes of the scheme which includes orientation, primary assignment ,secondary assignment and winding up/ passing out parade. She emphasized that the orientation programmes remains pivotal to a successful service year.

She reminded them that primary assignment runs simultaneously with Community Development Service and urged them to identify the felt needs of host community, initiate and execute viable CDS projects that will address such needs to leave a legacy beneficial to the people.

She advised the corps members to build up on the foundations they have acquired during the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development to enable them improve on their chosen skills.

She expressed sincere gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government for its commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members. Also appreciated collaborating partners and camp officials for their team spirit, display of emotional intelligence and commitment throughout the
period of the orientation camp.
