Revealed: How Gunmen Raided NIMC Office In Port Harcourt

The insecurity in Rivers State last week took a new dimension as gunmen Suspect to be cultists invaded the National Identify Commission,NIMC office, robbing applicants and staff of their phones and money.

It was alleged that armed men were invited by one of the young men suspexted to be a cultist in the queue after an argument with another NIN applicant.
The incident disrupted the registration process as the fierce looking gunmen stormed the commission’s premises.

Though mission of these men was unknown, according to eyewitnesses, they were seven in number suspected to be cultists ,they descended on one of the applicants, collected his phone and collected money from others, as some applicants fled.
It was also gathered that the police had not visited the area since the incident.

The Rivers State NIMC Coordinator, Amonia Oghenekaro confirmed the incident to newsmen saying, ” Our lives are in denger”.

But the spokeman of the state police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said that the matter had not Been reported to the police.

Also at Igwurutali, Ikwerre LGA, it has been reported that a lecturer at the Ken saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori , in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers of Rivers state has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic condemned the abduction and called for unconditional release of their member identified as James.

The institution’s ASUP Chairman, prince Nwiyo who confirmed the incident said that James was kidnapped at his residence at Igwuritali, Ikwerre LGA of the state on Tuesday.

Nwiyo said the Union might embark on a protest soon if their colleague was not released unconditionally.

He said ” We are calling on the security agencies to take control of the situation and ensure a successful rescue of our colleague.

“The abductors are in the same manner advised to release him unconditionally without further delay.
The Union will not accept any kidnap of any of our members, if after a while, he is not released, we are going to embark on serious peaceful protest ” the Poly ASUP chairman added.
