The Oluebube A Chukwu Foundation (OACF), a non-governmental organization, recently launched a grassroots initiative in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State, to raise awareness on the dangers of substance abuse and reinforce the importance of prevention.
The Community based initiative which is in commomoration of the 2024 United Nations
Day Against Illicit Trafficking and Drug Abuse with the theme;”The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention”, saw the active participation of the NDLEA and various stakeholders.
The OACF Foundation; a leading organization at the forefront of various initiatives aimed at educating the populace and addressing critical societal issues is set to raise awareness about drug abuse prevention and illicit trafficking with upcoming events extending to other local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Nkwoagu Isuochi, Umunneochi LGA, founder of the OACF and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement,Dr Oluebube Chukwu, emphasized the critical need for a healthy and drug-free society.

Dr Chukwu who noted that the event was aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, underscored the need for a united front by all stakeholders to address the prevalent issue,
The OACF Founder who emphasized the foundation’s commitment to combating drug abuse through community-based initiatives, expressed optimism that with continued education and collaboration from various stakeholders, the issue of substance abuse would be nipped in the bud.
“Substance abuse is not just a problem for individuals; it affects families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
“We believe that through continued education, empowerment, and collaboration with key stakeholders, we can create a safer and healthier environment for our youths and prevent many from falling into the trap of addiction.
“We need everyone, young people, parents, educators, community leaders, and policymakers, to join hands and work towards a drug-free society.
“We must all work together to create a society free from the scourge of drug abuse.
“The knowledge that the youths have acquired here today is a powerful tool in achieving this goal”, Chukwu stated.
He acknowledged the support of Governor Alex Otti, which he said has been instrumental in the successes recorded by the foundation so far and urged participants to make good use of the knowledge gained during the program.
In her speech, Deputy State Coordinator, Drug Demand Reduction (DRR) Unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia state, Mrs Anu Maurice, highlighted the severe dangers, including mental health risks associated with drug abuse and stressed the urgent need for preventive measures.
She lauded the OACF Foundation for partnering the NDLEA in the fight against substance abuse and drug trafficking, urging other stakeholders to contribute their quota towards ensuring a drug free society for all.
In his remarks, a community leader, Hon. Samuel Obiesie, appreciated the OACF foundation for its commitment to promoting health, education, and social welfare by bringing the awareness program to
the grassroots.
He also thanked the resource persons who brought their expertise to the event, for educating participants and the general public on the importance of investing in prevention to combat illicit trafficking and drug abuse.
The event featured lectures by the Health Authority Secretary of Umunneochi LGA, Mrs Grace Nwagbara, represented by Obi Chibuzo and other Experts from various fields, which focused on the significance of prevention in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking as well as interactive sessions.
