Gov Otti Fulfills Children’s Day Promise, Donates Buses To Special Education Centres

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has presented two brand new buses to the Special Education Centre for the blind and the Special Education Centre for the deaf and mentally challenged.

 

This is in fulfilment of his earlier promise to them at the Umuahia Township Stadium, during the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration with the Theme; “Enhancing the Total Well-being of The Nigerian Child Through Quality Education and Skills Development.

Speaking while handing over the buses to the schools, the Governor emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all citizens, including the vulnerable, live decent lives.

Governor Otti, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu assured that this is just the beginning of many more positive changes to come.

The Governor while assuring that soon the fencing of the school for the blind would follow, urged the people of Abia to trust in the new administration’s vision for a state that would benefits everyone.

 

In her remarks, Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, highlighted the governor’s dedication to supporting people living with disabilities, noting that he established the office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) for Persons Living with Disabilities.

She emphasized that the feeling of discrimination among those with disabilities should be dispelled, as the Governor is determined to give them a sense of belonging.

 

The Commissioner pointed out that the donation of the vehicles is a significant gesture, marking the first of such initiative from the Governor.

Responding, the Principal, School of the Blind Afaraukwu Umuahia, Mrs Nnenna Benedict thanked the Governor for the show of love and prayed that God to continue to guide and direct his steps.

 

Present at the event were Permanent Secretaries, Directors from the Ministry of Education, and other Government Officials.
