Preparations are on top gear, for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Abia State, to hold a grand civic reception in honour of the former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
The event which is slated for the 1st of June 2024, at the Trade More Event Centre, Umuahia, is organized to honour the former number three citizen of Nigeria, for his numerous contributions to the development, peace and unity of the nation and Abia in particular.
In a Media briefing held Monday in Umuahia, the former Deputy Governor of Abia, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, eulogized the pragmatic leadership of the former Senate President, saying that the National body of the PDP alongside the state, decided to put up a civic reception to honour and appreciate Senator Adolphus Wabara for the important role played in piloting and sustaining a peaceful political sphere and as well, for making a positive impact in the growth of Abia State and the nation at large.
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, described Sen Wabara as an enigma, an institution and a political force, who rose from the rank and file of the party to the position of the Senate President and currently the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party.
“Sen Adolphus Wabara rose from the scratch. So many people don’t know he was a one time Councilor, then a supervisory Councilor and later the Chairman of a Local Government Area. From there, he was elected to represent Abia South Senatorial District at the Senate and later became the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Sen Adolphus Wabara is an institution and a worthy leader who has contributed his quota to development.
“No other time is more appropriate for us to celebrate this leader par excellence than now, because this period doubles as his birthday anniversary. Precisely on Saturday being the 1st of June, the former Senate President will clock 76 years”.
The former Deputy Governor noted that the event which would be chaired by the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, Governor Seyi Makinde, would attract the creme De La Creme in Nigerian Politics, including the Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Umar Damagun.
Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu who also doubles as the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the event, said the ceremony transcends beyond Abia State, since the personality being celebrated is a National figure, adding that Abia is ready to role out their drums in celebration of the iconic leader, expressing optimism that the former Abia South Senator, would be able to turn things around in the party going forward.
He, however, disclosed that plans are already on the final stage to host an epoch making event.
Fielding questions from Journalists, Sir Oko Chukwu, maintained that the PDP in Abia is not perturbed over the recent defection of its members to other parties, stressing that the party is not missing them and as a matter of fact, those that left would be replaced accordingly.
Similarly, a Former Member who represented Ukwa East and West Federal Constituency, Hon Uzoma Abonta, said the Committee decided to celebrate Senator Adolphus Wabara, just to let Nigerians and PDP members know that Abia has produced a giant.
