Gov. Otti commissions first phase of the reconstructed Obehie-Oke-Ikpe Road in Ukwa West LGA
The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has officially commissioned the first phase of the reconstructed Obehie-Oke-Ikpe Road in Ukwa West LGA of the state.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at Obehie Primary School, which also saw him flag off the second phase of Oke-Ikpe to Akwaete Ohambele road project leading to Akwa Ibom State, Dr Otti who recalled the deplorable condition of the road in 2023 general elections campaign when he visited the area and thanked the NDDC as well as the Contractor Chief Mart for a job well done.
The Governor represented by his Deputy Chief Ikechukwu Emetu enjoined NDDC to revisit other abandoned projects in the state and ensure completion adding that his administration has already keyed into the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in ensuring the dividends of democracy gets to the grassroots.
He said that his administration has reconstructed 79 roads, constructed and commissioned 10 roads among other 20 ongoing road projects across the state.
In his Speech the Managing Director/CEO NDDC Dr Samuel Ogbuku said that the Obehie-Oke-Ikpe road project is a regional road that links Abia State to Akwa Ibom adding that NDDC in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President is committed in ensuring all abandoned projects within the Commission areas of coverage is realized
Dr Ogbuku thanked the Governor Dr Alex Otti and the benefiting Communities for their support towards timely completion of the project.
Also Speaking the facilitator of the project and also a Member Representing Abia State at NDDC Governing Board ,Chief Dimgba Eruba said that the road project which represents progress, connectivity Will also improve socio-economic stability of Abia State and Akwa Ibom State as well as facilitates ease movement of goods and services.
Contributing the Excutive Director, Projects NDDC,Mr Victor Antai said that the road project was awarded on 7/4/2022 at the Contract Sum of 889 Million,696 Thousand 335 Naira pointing out that the project has reduced travel time or stress between the two states, improve security surveillance and boast economic rejuvenation of the benefiting Communities.
In their goodwill messages, the Member Representing Ukwa West State Constituency Chief Godwin Adiele, Chairman Ukwa West Council of Traditional Rulers Eze Chinyere Dike, Woman Leader Lolo Monica Chinke,Ezedinachi Kanu and Rt Hon Stanley Emeka who recalled the deplorable condition of the road in the past thanked Chief Eruba for attracting the road project and appealed to NDDC to install Solar energy and resuscitate 3.5 KVA abandoned Ikwogu power plant Substation.
