Be practical, factual, Engr. Emetu tasks CAMPAN.
The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has enjoined media practitioners to use occasion of the world communication Day to reflect on the way information is been disseminated to the public.
Speaking when he received in audience the Catholic Media Practitioner Association of Nigeria, CAMPAN at Government House, Umuahia, Engr. Emetu harped on the need not be emotional while reporting an event but to be practical and factual about things that is happening and how it is being related to the public.
He reminded them that the organization emanated from the church and must do things differently which include being bold to call a spade a spade without caring who ox is gored .
“I also come from a family where my Dad, Sir Martin Emetu, happened to be a journalist. He worked with Daily Times Newspapers before he move to oil company and retired as a regional manager” the Deputy Governor recollected.
He congratulated Sir Chimdi Oluoha for emerging the National President of the Association, saying, ” It’s a welcome development, having an Abian take that position in this very this dispensation. Abia State is coming on the news for the right thing. So as a Catholic, I really want to say congratulations for making us proud”.
Earlier in his speech, the National President of Catholic Media Practitioner Association of Nigeria Sir Chimdi Oluoha said that the purpose of World Communication Day is to encourage media literacy among the Nigeria citizens irrespective of religious background.
“We don’t just restrict this to catholic denomination, we are also interested as catholic media practitioners to discuss professionalism both in the practice of journalism, in the practice of productions, be it on Radio, TV and film production.
“It is also our duty to ensure that those who teach communication in our universities and other institutions impact knowledge that would help the practitioners work successfully in society for the good of the society and for the common good of all”.
The Chairman Diocese of Umuahia Catholic Media Practitioner Association of Nigeria, Comrade Hyacinth Okoli in his speech also said the Association has be to existing for so many years, with the duty to evangelize through communication.
He passionately appealed to the Deputy Governor to help and assist the Association make the year 2024 World Communication Day a colourful one.
