Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has commended the Founder Vision Africa international and Co-chair, Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop Sunday Onuoha for his role in fostering peace and spearheading rapid development initiatives in the state, particularly his Item homeland and across Nigeria.
Governor Otti was speaking at Okai Item, Bende LGA of the state during the 60th Birthday Celebration of Bishop Onuoha, with the theme; “Giving Back To The Community“.
The Governor acknowledged the role of the servant of God as an instrument for positive change and commended him for his unwavering commitment to the service of both God and humanity.
Governor Otti while thanking God for blessing Bishop Onuoha with 60 years of life, extended his appreciation to the celebrant for his invaluable support to the present administration, and thanked the Item Okpi community for honouring him.
“We are celebrating one of our own, an anointed man of God, a man that has dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity. We want to say a big thank you to God for his life up to this moment. We want to thank God for what he has done with him.
“We also want to thank him for accepting to be an instrument in the hand of God, to preach the gospel, to touch lives, to make impacts. 60 is just the beginning.
“Thank you for what you represent to Abia State, we thank you for what you represent for the people of Item and Bende and Nigeria in general. We must also thank you for the support that you have given this government”, Gov Otti remarked.
The Governor who used the opportunity to highlight some of the the transformative initiatives undertaken by his administration, attributed the state’s progress to the resilience to enthrone good governance and reiterated his commitment to elevating Abia’s status assuring that the past nine months were just the beginning.
Speaking earlier during the Church Dedication and Communion Service at Saint John Methodist Church Okai Item, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminaence, Dr Oliver Ali Aba described Bishop Onuoha as an iconic servant of God who has exhibited humility in service to God and mankind despite his status in the society.
Dr Oliver noted that the Grace of God has made Bishop Onuoha to give back to his community by renovating the church, building the church’s Children section, the Agnes Memorial Hospital and other numerous projects to his credit.
In his remarks, the Celebrant, Bishop Sunday Onuoha while reflecting on his journey, revealed how overcoming adversities has empowered him and his family to positively impact and transform lives and expressed his commitment to serving people of all faiths.
Bishop Onuoha explained that the Agnes Memorial Hospital, was instituted to immortalize his late daughter, Agnes Onuoha for her compassionate nature towards others during her lifetime.
He noted that the Saint John’s Methodist Church, Okai Item is a source for providing him with spiritual strength which promoted him to utilize his initial earnings in the United States to contribute to its construction.
Speaking while laying the foundation of additional structures at Agnes Onuoha Memorial Hospital, Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo commended Bishop Onuoha for his commitment to societal welfare and appreciated the Onuoha family for their efforts in immortalizing Agnes as well as their ongoing philanthropy aimed at saving lives.
The event, witnessed the gathering of eminent dignitaries including the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Owen Essien, Former Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda among other distinguished guests.
