Abia Govt To Kick Off Construction Of Arochukwu-Ndiokereke-Ozuabam Road, Others …. Unveils Education Initiatives

 

In keeping with it’s strategic road infrastructure development initiative, Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti will officially flag off of the construction of the 30 kilometer Arochukwu- Ndiokereke-Ozuabam road project on Wednesday, March 20th.

 

The Governor will also flag off of the construction of the 11.5-kilometer Nunya-Eluama Isukwato road slated to hold on Tuesday, 28 March.

 

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Otti.

 

Prince Kanu while pointing out the pivotal role of roads as serious enablers for a conducive business environment, said that “the state government will not relent in ensuring that the whole roads in Abia state are in good shape and condition”.

 

The Commissioner stated that the state government in it’s move to prioritize education, has approved the disbursement of bursary awards to Abia state indigenes studying in Law Universities nationwide.

 

He emphasized that the initiative underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to supporting students’ academic pursuits.

Kanu while restating the present administration’s commitment in the education sector, said the state government places premium on the education sector hence it’s declaration of a state of emergency in the sector upon assumption of office.

 

“This is in keeping with the high premium that the state government places on education and this would bring alot of joy to our people, to parents and of course to our students”, Prince Kanu noted.

He further disclosed that the state government has authorized the renovation of 170 primary schools, and 51 secondary schools across the state in addition to the six model schools in the three Senatorial zones of the state and added that the present government is commitment to improving educational facilities and fostering a conducive learning environment for students across the state.

 

“The government has also approved the renovation and retrofitting of 170 primary schools and 10 primary schoools per LGA and this is in addition to the six models schools that have been approved before now, undergoing construction.

“Also 51 secondary schools have been approved for renovation with three per LGA across the state and the schools”, the Commissioner said.

 

Prince Kanu who disclosed that the West Africa Examination Council had delisted some private schools in the state as a result of examination malpractices, said that state government is in agreement with the move aimed at sanitizing the education sector and ensuring that the right thing is done.

 

“The delisting of the schools is in line with the ethos of the new Abia. We believe that the have hammer by WAEC, our people will begin to do the right thing”,

 

Prince Kanu used the opportunity to remind Abians that the monthly clean up exercise for the month of March would come up on Saturday this week and advised residents to come out enmasse to clean up their environments.

 

Contributing,the Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, said that the delisted schools in the state are mostly privately owned, and added that the bursary award is to help reduce the financial burden of Abia students studying law across the country.

She noted that the renovation and retrofitting of schools are being done in phases, pointing out that all the schools being retrofitted have provisions for security post, Teachers quarters and other facilities to make the environment conducive for teaches and students alike.
