The Deputy Governor of Abia State Engrneer Ikechukwu Emetu, has warned Ohafia youths and those that specializes in vandalism and theft of Government and communal properties to desist from the unlawful business or spend years in jail.
Engr Emetu made this known during an interactive session with the youths and indigens of Okon -Aku community in Ohafia over the incident of vandalism at Eastern Region Estate Investment ( EREI) where the Palm oil Processing mills and tanks were dismantled for illegal sale.
The Deputy Governor disclosed that investigations revealed that the act was allegedly masterminded by the President General of Okon Development Union, Mr. Nmecha Ume in connivance with other youth leaders of the community.
He stated that in the process of conveying the stolen materials following a tip off from the village hunters, he immediately called the DPO of Ohafia Division to mobilize his men which led to the arrest of the criminals.
Engr Emetu decried that such act is not only shameful but disgusting, for a supposed community leader to mastermind the vandalism and sales for peanut of Government or Community owned property and disclosed that arrangements are already in top gear by the present government under the leadership of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti to revamp the oil settlement to create employment for the youths as well as generate revenue for the State.
Speaking to newsmen, the Managing Director of Task International Technical limited and former President General of ODU, Chief Ndukwe Iko expressed disappointment over the heinous crime perpetrated by the present PG who is supposed to protect the common wealth of the community and advised anyone who conceives such idea to vandalize, loot and sale property to desist forthwith while promising to collaborate with government to ensure lasting peace in the community.
Chief Iko thanked the Deputy Governor for his prompt response and contact to the Ohafia DPO which led to the arrest of the criminals.
