The Inspector General of Police Mr Mohammed Adamu, Tuesday inaugurated the Abia State Crime Prevention and Management System (CPAMS) and the Abia State Ministry of Homeland Security Watch.
Performing the ceremony at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, the IGP who later commissioned the new Zone 9 Headquarters Completed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu along the Abia State House of Assembly Road, Umuahia lauded the governor for his support to the Police force.
He further commended Governor Ikpeazu his efforts towards establishing the Abia State Ministry of Homeland security and the CPAMS to bridge the gap in providing adequate security in all nooks and crannies of the Abia state.
Adamu, described the role of the newly trained officers of the Ministry of Homeland Security as strategic due to their proximity to the grassroot and charged them to always collaborate with men of the Nigerian police by identifying and reporting suspected criminals within their localities.
He urged them to see their positions as one that calls for Service to the fatherland and avoid using their positions as a tool to molest the less privileged in their midst.
The Police boss assured that members of the Homeland Security will be exposed to further training and retraining so at to compliment the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force in securing lives and properties of the citizens.
In his remarks,Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said that the Ministry of Homeland Security was established by his administration to complement security efforts of various security agencies in the state.
Governor Ikpeazu said that the Abia State Crime prevention and Management System CPAMS is a security intervention platform created by his administration to complement the security architecture already on ground.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says he looks forward to seeing the Inspector General of Police domesticate the CPAMS model across the 36 states the federation to support effectiveness and proactiveness of the entire security system of the Country.
The Governor said that all the police formations across state have been provided with the necessary ICT facilities including 24hours-Solar power system for the effective functioning of the CPAMS.
Governor Ikpeazu had earlier handed over ten brand new Police Vans to the Abia State Command of the Nigerian police and five patrol Vans to the Nigerian Military, Abia State Command.
The event attracted the presence of the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, DIG Celestine Okoye, The AIG Zone 9,Tijani Baba and the state Commissioner of police Janet Agbede among other dignitaries.
