INEC Issues Certificate Of Return To House of Assembly Member-elect After A Re-run

The Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC), Obo Effanga, has presented the certificate of return to the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Amakoromo Warikumo, who won the constituency election conducted in Mahmood Yakubu media centre, Yenagoa, recently.

The re-run was conducted in seven polling units of Gbarain 1&2, and Ekpetiama 1&2 where elections was cancelled due to electoral malpractices.

Warikumo got the total votes of five thousand, nine hundred and fifty-nine (5959) votes against his opponent, Hon. Eboiwou koku Obiyal who challenged the previous result that still declared him the winner. Then court ordered for a re-run election which took place on 3rd February 2024.

Effanga, who presented the certificate of return to the winner said “the election was conducted in March last year during the general election, and a winner was declared by INEC, one of the participants of that election went to tribunal and eventually to court of appeal, and they instructed that a re-run should be conducted in seven polling units to determine who authentically won, and we are done with it and the winner has been declared and handed over its certificate of return.

“The rerun was free and fair, no election malpractices as was previously accused of one”, he stated.
