The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Hon Amakoromo
Waikumo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, winner of the Yenagoa Constituency 2 re-/run election.
The February 3rd re-run election was held in seven units of Gbarain 1&2, and Ekpetiama 1&2 where elections were cancelled due to electoral malpractices.
Waikuno, who scored the highest votes cast polled a total of 5959 votes to beat his closest rival Hon Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 5263 votes.
Declaring the result, the state returning officer, Prof Chris Onyema, Deputy Vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke said, “By the powers invested on him, the candidate, Hon Warikumo Amakoro haven certified the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes, is thereby declared the winner of Yenagoa constituency 2 re-run election”.
Recalled that Yenagoa constituency 2 election results conducted on November 11, 2023 was declared in favour of the APGA candidate, Hon Warikumo Amakoro, but the PDP candidate, Hon Eboiwou Koku Obiyal, challenged the result and the court consequently ordered for a re-run election on 3rd February 2024.
