Mrs Otti distributes relief materials to IDPs in Umunnetor

 

The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti has distributed relief materials to the internally displaced persons in Umunnetor in Ukwa West L.G.A, of Abia State.

The relief materials distributed during the outreach include: bags of Rice, Vegetable oils and other food supplement.

Speaking during the event at IDP camp in Umunnetor Obuzor Ukwa West, Mrs Otti, who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable groups and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas, sympathized with the displaced persons, noting that she came to bring succour to them a to cheer them up especially at this period of yuletide.

“It is disheartening and heart rendering to see that people live in abject poverty, not because they want to, but circumstances beyond their control have put them in this kind of situation”, Mrs. Otti lamented” she said.

She assured them that the present administration in the state would continue to alleviate the pains faced by them, as was brought about by unforseen circumstances which overwhelmed them.

She also assured that the young women among them will be exposed to skills acquisition programmes to enable them to be self reliant and employers of labour.

Responding, Amb. Iweoha Chima Iweoha, founder of Refuge Relief workers International; and one of the Internally displaced persons, Mrs Chinwendu Adiele praised the all inclusive disposition of Gov. Alex Otti’s administration and also appreciated the wife of the governor for coming to their aid in their moment of sorrow and helplessness.

HRH Eze Tunde Ehiemere, the traditional ruler of Umunnetor Autonomous Community represented by Chief Joseph Kanu, the palace secretary among others were present.
