Mayor Ikeji Collaborates With Community Leaders To Tackle Rising Youth Crime In Umuahia North LGA

 

The Mayor, Umuahia North LGA, High-Chief Victor Ikeji has underscored the importance of collaborative initiatives among stakeholders to foster growth and progress within the council.

 

Mayor Ikeji stated this, on Monday during an interactive meeting he held with the President-Generals of the two clans of Ibeku and Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA.

He expressed concerns over the rising moral decay,criminal activities, unchecked drug abuse, especially among youths in the two clans and emphasized the link between security and development.

 

Mayor Ikeji who sought the partnership of Stakeholders to bridge developmental gaps at the grassroots level, noted that development will remain elusive in an atmosphere characterized by insecurity.

He noted urged community leaders to collaborate with the council and security agencies to combat the menace.

“I therefore call on the President-Generals as the administrators of their various communities to take charge and work hand in glove with the council and relevant security agencies to stamp out drug abuse and criminalities within their domain“, the Council boss charged.

 

Major Ikeji and called on them to partner with the council to breach the developmental gaps at the grassroots.

 

The Mayor disclosed his developmental agenda to the community leaders and also implored them to make inputs on the needs of their people and suggest on how best the government can help them.

In their separate responses,  the President-General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association, High-Chief Jerry Onyemachi and the President-General of Umuawa-Aloacha, Ohuhu Comr. Chinenye Uwadi while appreciating the Mayor for initiating the meeting said; “this is the first time any council boss is involving them in issues of security and development within the local government.

The President of the two clans called for support on issues of insecurity bedeviling their various communities and also assured the mayor of their cooperation and partnership to ensure peace and development within their domain.

 

They pledged cooperation, seeking the Mayor’s assistance in resolving leadership disputes and addressing community challenges.

 

Hon. Okechukwu Anthony Amah, the Deputy-Mayor, the Secretary to the local government, Dr. Mrs. Edith Ifenyiwa Iheoma, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Aguwa God’swill Ozoemelam, the deputy – leader, Hon. Ogbonna Henry, the Majority-Leader, Hon. Okeamah Gideon and the Chief Whip Hon. Ifeanyi Onuegbu were present during the meeting.
