Ukwa East to Witness New Lease of Life, Development

A new lease of life is set to dawn in Ukwa East local government of Abia state as the newly inaugurated Mayor of the council, Dr. Mrs Ngozi Nwagbara has unfolded programmes that will change the face of the council positively and bring developments to the area.

Speaking to a National Ambassador reporter, at the sideline of Michael Okpara auditorium, the venue of the swearing-in ceremony of the 17 council mayors and their deputies, Dr. Nwagbara said that she would liaise with the state government and various stakeholders to reverse the underdevelopment that had held the council backwards for years. She pledged to tackle the total absence of infrastructure in the council and put it on the path of prosperity and active development by exploiting the abundant human and material resources the council was blessed with.

The Council Mayor promised that within the next six months, Ukwa East will experience a new lease of socio-economic development that would mark the end of years of decadence and underdevelopment. Dr. Nwagbara also pledged to ensure the restoration of electricity to the Ndoki nation which had been in darkness for years as well as tackle the dilapidated poor feeder road network in the council.

On markets and parks, the Ph.D. degree holder stated that the Ohanku market with its proximity to Aba if well developed and managed along with other markets in Akwete and Obohia will attract customers even from outside the state. The first female Mayor of Ukwa East LGA said that she would seek the intervention of the state government and other stakeholders to resuscitate the moribund Abiapalm, a great revenue-yielding venture in Ukwa East but abandoned by previous administrations in the state for years.

She equally promised to attract attention to the Azumini Blue River which the past government procured a non-functioning one-engine boat in order to make the tourist site a beehive of activities and revenue-yielding center.

While thanking the Governor for the rare privilege of appointing her as the only female Mayor and first in Ukwa East, pledged to work in tandem with the vision of Gov.Otti’s administration by ensuring zero tolerance for corruption and proper utilization of the funds that would accrue to the council. Dr. Nwagbara challenged the people that now is the time to close ranks, be at the forefront of telling the truth and know what to expect from the government.
