Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142 has expressed its readiness to renovate a 39-year old Incubation Room situated at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
The Incubation Room which is presently not in a good state, according to the 43rd President of the Club, Rotarian Irem Okafor Kalu was built and donated to FMC, Umuahia by the Club in the year 1984.
Presenting an inaugural address at Bishop Anthony Nwedo Pastoral Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, shortly after his installation as the 2023/2024 Create Hope President of the Club, Rotarian Kalu also disclosed the plans to donate 20 set of computers for the promotion of Information and Communication Technology and entrepreneurial skills at the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia, BCA.
“This year 2023/2024, the Rotary International President Gordon McInally has urged us to “Create Hope in the World” and become more involved in service projects, as we know that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives but also our own”.
“Our compassion and our ability to open our hearts to those in need, combined with our commitment to share our time, talent and treasure with those who are less fortunate is what causes ordinary Rotarians such as ourselves to do extraordinary things we do”, the Rotary Club President concluded.
Rotarian Kalu, who reminded members that there are some communities whose only hope comes from Rotary, encouraged them not to relent but to strive to make the lives of such people better.
Earlier in a valedictory address, the outgoing Synergizer President of the Club, Rotarian Adaeze Iroegbu, PHF reeled out her achievements to include: sponsoring of 20 children for the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA); increasing Club’s membership strength from 26 to 35; and another twenty verifiable life saving service projects among others.
Rotarian Iroegbu who tasked her successor to attract solid members to the Club and sustain same, also charged him to embark on solid projects, as members of the Club will join hands with him to create Hope in their communities and the world at large.
Interacting with a cross section of newsmen respectively shortly after the event, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, Abia State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry; and the Rotary International Assistant Governor, Zone 7, District 9142, Rotarian Ugochukwu Ajawara, encouraged Rotarians to strive to be counted worthy in all their endeavours, as Rotary demands selfless service to humanity.
The event featured conferment of awards; Inauguration of Board Members and induction of new members, among who was Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, Abia State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry.
