Accountants Charged To Be Transparent In The Discharge Of Their Duties

Accountants in the state have been urged to abide strictly by the tenets of their profession in the discharge of their duties for optimal results.

 

The Secretary to Abia State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu stated this during this year’s International Accounting Day celebration in the state with the theme “Accounting Increases Transparency and Accountability held at Trade More Event Center Okpara Square, Umuahia.

Prof Kalu, who said that accountancy remains his primary constituency identified the role of accountants as critical in all sectors of the economy.

 

The SSG who described the theme of the event as very apt made it clear that the present administration under the able leadership of Governor Alex Otti, thrives on transparency and accountability.

He therefore stressed the need for accountants in the state to exhibit a high level of professionalism for the realization of the good mission of rebuilding Abia State for the good of all.

 

In her opening remark, the Accountant General of the State Deaconess Njum Uma Onyemenam appreciated Governor Alex Otti for his support to the success of the program, adding that accountants who according to her are financial stewards play critical and vital role in ensuring that financial records accurately reflect the activities and transactions of government.

The event which featured the presentation of an award to the SSG, lecture on the theme “Accounting increases transparency and accountability” by Sir Mike Ibe, health talk on “Enhancing Life Expectancy in the present Economic reality” by Dr Onuka Okorie, Goodwill messages cutting of cake among others, attracted the presence of Permanent Secretaries, ICAN chairman umuahia District Mr Dan Awazie and top Government functionaries.
