The Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Commerce and Investment, Chief Nwaka Inem, has disclosed plans by the present adminstration to revive moribund industries in the state.
Inem, shared this information on Monday at Government House Umuahia in company of the commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu who addressed journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
The Governor’s Aide disclosed that the state government has set up a committee to produce a comprehensive list of moribund industries in the state.
According to him; “As at the last count, there were 40 industries in the state which include Star Paper Mill, International Equitable, Glass Industry, Modern Ceramic, among others”
Inem noted that most of the industries were moribund because of managerial deficiencies, funding challenges and family fracas over the choice of successor.
He said that the government would provide the necessary support to ensure that the reasons for the closure of each industry would be resolved and the industries brought back in operation to boost job creation for the teeming youths in the state.
“Government will make sure all those industries come back to life.We will employ our contact within the financial world to sort out those that have financial or credit challenges.
“We will provide professional and technical support for those with managerial problem’s while those industries that are actively running will be encouraged to sustain their success story.
“It is the commitment of the present administration to ensure that these industries will come back to life”, he said.
Inem urged the residents of Aba to desist from engaging in street trading, adding that the practice was highly unacceptable as it was causing damage to the roads in the city.
He charged the residents to support government’s programmes and policies aimed at making the state an investors’ haven.
