High Court Holds Special Session for Former President General Ohaneze Ndigbo

A special High Court session was today held in honour of former president general Ohaneze Ndigbo, Prof. Joseph Ogbonnaya Irukwu at the High Court complex Umuahia.

 

Addressing the High Court session, the State Chief Judge, Justice Lilian Abai described the diseased as a global figure, colossus and a legal luminary whose impact remained outstanding.

 

Justice Abai who was represented by a presiding in High Court 2 Umuahia Division, Hon Justice Chinwe Onyeabor noted that the diseased was the Pioneer chief executive of Nigerian Insurance Corporation, as well as Pioneer Author of many books and a former chairman African Continental Bank among other top ranking positions and prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and consoled the Item community, the State and Nigeria for loosing such a treasure

In his speech, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Ikechukwu Uwana said Prof. Irukwu’s dedication and devotion to the principles and ethics of the legal profession cannot be over-emphasized while he condoled his family, friends and members of the legal profession in Nigeria.

 

Speaking on behalf of the League of SANs, Chief James Igwe described the late Irukwu as a reliable, jovial and fine gentleman whose contributions to the promotion of his community and the Igbo race will remain indelible in the sands of time.

In their tributes, the chairman, NBA, Umuahia Branch, Mr. Jasper Ejimofor Esq, the NBA, Ohafia Branch, chief Oko Uche and his Ukwa Branch counterpart, Chinomnso Nwosu Esq noted that Prof. Irukwu career as a lawyer spanned several decades while he held top positions both private and public sector in Nigeria economy stressing that his influence in the legal profession extended to the African continent and the global community.

 

The court session which attracted dignitaries from far and wide including the former minister of state for steel and mine, members of the bar and bench and stakeholders in the insurance and the Item community, among others.
