In response to concerns about potential disruptions to public peace and order following a recent ruling by the three-man election tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, the Kano State government has taken precautionary measures. On Wednesday, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has officially confirmed a 24-hour curfew in the state.
Effective from 6 pm on Wednesday, September 20th, through to 6 pm on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, this curfew aims to maintain stability and prevent any incidents that could threaten public safety. CP Gumel emphasized that strict adherence to this order is crucial and cautioned residents that those who defy it will face legal consequences.
According to CP Gumel, the Kano State Government transmitted the curfew directive via a formal letter with Reference No: K/SEC/H/435/T.1/153, dated September 20, 2023. He underscored the constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force and relevant internal security and law enforcement agencies to uphold peace and order in the state.
To ensure the successful enforcement of the curfew, combined security forces have been deployed across the state, including its entry and exit points. This extensive presence is intended to guarantee compliance and maintain security.
CP Gumel concluded his statement by expressing appreciation for the cooperation of the peace-loving people of Kano State. He urged all residents to remain law-abiding, emphasizing that collective efforts are necessary to preserve peace and order in the state.
