Abia State Govt To Commission More Roads In Aba, Others

Abia state Government has disclosed that in addition to the three newly completed and commissioned roads in Aba, plans are underway to commission more roads including the Umuimo, Udeagbala and old Express road, completed by the present administration.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture Prince Okey Kanu announced this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu who emphasized the state government’s commitment to delivering enduring road infrastructure for Abians said that the Governor Otti-led administration is carrying out palliative work on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene federal road to ameliorate the plight of Commuters and other road users along the road.

The Commissioner also noted that all new roads under construction by the present administration would be lit up in line with the light-up initiative of the government.

In addition, Prince Kanu stated that all new roads currently under construction by the present administration will be illuminated as part of the government’s light-up initiative.

He listed some of the roads to be included in the first phase of the light-up Abia project to include Aba-Owerri road, MCC, Factory, Brass, and Okigwe.

Prince Kanu also announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park is scheduled for the 30th of this month at Owaza.

Contributing the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Professor Joel Ogbonna disclosed that government has concluded plans to develop about 17 mineral resources deposits in various parts of the state including Gold, limestone, and kaoline among others.

He said that the idea is to boost revenue, provide investment and job opportunities to the people.

The Commissioner for Transport Mr Sunny Onwuma announced that Governor Alex Otti will on Wednesday this week commission the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre in Ubakala Umuahia South LGA aimed at ensuring road worthiness of Vehicles plying the roads.

Also, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Otumchere Oti said the proposed expansion of Ossah-Express Tower project is still on course as preparations including payment of Compensation, road design among others are in the concluding stage for the final take-off.
