Abia First Lady Bags Distinguished Award Of Recognition.

The women wing of Amaokwe Item Welfare Union in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State has decorated the wife of Abia Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, as ‘Nneoha Abia’,at their August Annual Conference held recently at the Madam Egbichi Oteh Mini Stadium, Atanko Amaokwe Item.
While during the occasion, also recognised were Abia State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, National Council for Women Society President in Abia, Mrs. Agnes Okoro Afia and Professor Regina Ogali for their outstanding contributions towards the development of the community.

At the conference, the Governor’s wife expressed her delight to be recognised by the women of Amaokwe Item community. She, however,advised them to share ideas, inspire one another and collectively work to develop,not only their community but the state at large.

Mrs. Otti said that her office has set in motion series of initiatives aimed at safeguarding the rights of women and the girl child, stressing that the administration of Governor Alex Otti is poised to rebuild and create enabling environments where every Abian would thrive.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, said that she was pleased to see the desire and yearnings of the women to develop the community and would encourage her siblings and every indigene of the community to contribute their quota.

Earlier, the President General Amaokwe Item Welfare Union (women wing) Lady Mercy Kesandu Uko, in her address stated that one of the mandates of her executives from onset was to sensitize and reposition Amaokwe Item women towards greater unity, progress and improved welfare.
“We also gave ourselves the mandate of partnering our great and beloved menfolk in contributing meaningfully to the overall development and progress of Amaokwe Item in particular and Item Okpi homeland in general”, she said.

Lady Uko, went on to list some of their achievements including creation of Amaokwe Item Women Stakeholders Online forum, Establishment of more diaspora branches of Amaokwe Item Welfare Union, constitution of the education committee, projects committee, skills acquisition committee, and equipping of a mini library at Item High School, among others.
