Morocco’s baptism of fire at the ongoing World Cup turned out to be an outing they will always want to forget as they were thrashed 6-0, the highest defeat in the competition so far, by Germany in Melbourne.
For the Europeans it was a comfortable victory as they took charge of Group H. German captain, Alexandra Popp made the difference with two clinical headers in the first half.
The German ladies did not take their legs off the pedal in the second half as Klara Buhl extended Germany’s lead. Morocco’s Hanane Ait el Haj and Yasmin Mrabet scored own goals to make the score line 5-0.
Morocco tried to fight back launching couple of attacks but lacked the cutting edge of their opponents and that made the difference.
In the 90th minute, the Europeans completed the rout when substitute Lea Schuller added a sixth.
The score line would have been more as the Germans had a goal ruled out for off-side and they hit the woodwork twice.
Morocco’s next match will be on Sunday against South Korea while Germany take on Colombia same day.
