The member representing Isuikwuato state constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Lucky Johnson, has revealed that the first bill he may likely sponsor at the floor of the House, will be on the need to change the Abia State Road Contract Act.
Hon Johnson said without the Change in the Road Act, it would be difficult and unconstitutional to invite good contractors like Julius Berger to construct roads in Abia.
In an interview with National Ambassador Newspapers, in Umuahia, the Lawmaker said to consolidate on the good vision the Governor has for the state, he would be shooting his first shot as a legislator, by sponsoring the bill that would approve for Grade A contractors to come on board in the state to construct trunk roads.
According to him, this is the only way to support the Governor’s plan of developing the state. “We need to make good laws that will support development in Abia and one of such laws that can bring development is the reviewing of the ‘Road Contract Act’. With the changes in the Act, Julius Berger Plc, as well as other grade A contractors, can be granted access to take up the contract of constructing Abia roads without any contempt of the constitution”.
Hon Johnson further stated that when the roads in Abia are all in good conditions, as well as, the F-Line of the state is increased from 700sqm to 1000sqm, investors, especially those in the real estate business, would be attracted to make huge investment in the state, which at the long run, can boost the state’s IGR and as well, tackle the issue of unemployment.
The Lawmaker equally pointed out that his constituents are in for a good time, while he is serving them at the House of Assembly, stating emphatically that he would utilize his first four years in giving back to his people.
He said, “I am bringing politics home. The concept of politics for me is to reach out .While i give 10 percent to God, 20 percent will go to charity.
“Our mandate is to bring the dividend of democracy to the grassroot. This is what i have been doing for the past fifteen years now. As a matter of fact, this is what gave me victory, despite the Obi wave”.
He said he was spurred into active politics just to bring to bare his skills and most especially, his passion of touching lives.
While calling on the people of Isuikwuato for their support, Hon Johnson promised not to relent in giving back to his constituents, stating that he would create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive in Isuikwuato and its environs, adding that he would however, encourage progressive minds to come back home to acquire properties for building, which he stated, would help in enhancing the aesthetic look of the area.
He, however, invited his constituents to his thanksgiving service coming up this Sunday, the 25th of June, 2023
