Abia DGov Receives NAWOJ, Commends Journalists For Supporting Government Programmes

 

Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has commended Abia Journalists for not only supporting Government’s programmes, but acting as society’s watchdog through information dissemination, education and entertaining the public through professional reportage especially now the society needs to check the influx of quacks.

Sir Oko Chukwu who made the commendation during a courtesy visit by the new Executives of NAWOJ, Abia State Chapter at Government House, Umuahia, Abia State expressed Government’s readiness to continue to partner the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ in achieving their lofty programmes especially their voter education campaign across the State.

He noted that the voter education campaign is very timely especially at this critical time of sensitizing citizens on the need to use their votes wisely in electing credible candidates rather than voting on sentiments.

The Deputy Governor stressed the need for Government and stakeholders to assist journalists for the wonderful job they are doing.

Sir. Oko Chukwu used the forum to congratulate the new Executives of NAWOJ for emerging winners that will oversee the affairs of the Association and appreciated them for their kind words as well as acknowledging the modest achievements recorded by the Dr Okezie Ikpeazu’s led administration, promising to continue to do their best to acquit themselves creditably at the end of their tenure.

In her address, the State Chairman of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, comrade Josephine Ogwo who said they came to present their newly elected Executives to him, seek his further support and collaboration with his office especially in realizing their programs such as their voter education campaign, reaching out to the less privileged and sponsoring five of their members for mandatory professional training among others.

Comrade Ogwo appreciated the Deputy Governor for his cordial working relationship with his boss, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as well as his magnanimity in sponsoring NAWOJ programs and trips over the years which has enabled Abia Women Journalists to be on the same page with other Women Journalists across the Country.
