The State House of Assembly presided over by the Speaker, Chief Chinedum Orji has passed into law H. A.B 61: ” The Abia State Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Bill, 2022″.
Announcing the passage of the bill, the Speaker who noted that when assented to, the law would be deemed to have come into force on the 16th day of November, 2022 explained that the law provides for the right of a female person to own and inherit property among others and appreciated his colleagues for their support and cooperation.
Sponsored by the Speaker, the bill which attract support from all the members who contributed during the debate also received accelerated hearing leading to its passage.
The house also received and passed for first reading H.A.B 60: The Abia State 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2022 which is a bill for a law to make supplementary provision of the sum of Twenty One Billion, Three Hundred and Ninety Eight Million, Eight – Six Thousand and Eight Hundred Naira (N 21,398,086,800.00) only for the services of the Government of Abia State of Nigeria for the year ending 31st December,2022 and for other related purposes.
The House received a petition from the Association of States’ Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter on the correction and regularization of the payment of consolidated pension of retired permanent secretaries in the state and committed it to an adhoc Committee headed by the member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, Mr Stanley Nwabuisi with Dr Mike Ukoha of Arochukwu State Constituency and Chief Munachim Alozie of Ugwumagbo State Constituency as members.
Similarly, the immediate past Speaker of the House and member for Isialangwa South State Constituency, Chief Chikwendu Kalu is to Chair an adhoc Committee with Chief Jerry Uzosike of Umuahia South, Chief Emeka Okoroafor of Isuikwuato and Chief Aaron Uzodike as members to investigate a petition to the House by the Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Abia State on an alleged certificate racketeering in Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.
On another petition by one Hyacinth Mbakwe of Asa Nnentu motor spare parts market on an alleged case of abuse of office, official recklessness, misconduct and threatening violence against the Chairman of Ugwumagbo Local Government Area, Mrs Joy Nnanta, the House committed the matter to an adhoc Committee headed by Chief Kelechi Onuzurike of Umuahia North and Chief Mandela Obasi of Ohafia North, Mr Goddy Adiele of Ukwa West and the Minority Leader, Chief Chukwu Chijioke as members to investigate and report back to the House.
The House therefore adjourned plenary to reconvene on Tuesday next week (22/11/22).
