The Former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has urged youths to desist from demanding maximum pay for minimal job, which is a sign of laziness.
Nebo said this recently while speaking on the topic: “The Excellent Leader” at the 6thedition of the Leadership Rebirth Conference, organized by Impactfield Global Youths Initiative.
He called on youths to shun the idea of cutting corners and running away from hard work and commitment.
The don advised youths to drive positive visions and pursuit through hard work and dedication for the betterment of the society.
According to him, excellent leadership is all about service to others; and what you have to offer to make a place or people better.
He said: “If you truly want to leader a people, you must have positive character, truth, accountability and unquestionable transparency.
“Leadership is about influencing people positively to take correct or positive actions that will lead to sustainable development and growth of a place or people.”
Nebo, who is a former Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, urged youths aspiring to go into political leadership to be pro-active and get committed to volunteering and “start doing something even small in your neighbourhoods”.
He challenged the youths to use their positive energy to influence the society for the better and “be focused on transformational leadership and not on transactional leadership”.
“Youths must be disciplined, be humble, innovative, just and efficient,” he said.
In a talk on “Emotional Intelligence in Leadership”; Pastor Obinna Ebiem, said that emotional leadership was the ability to consider uniqueness of others while leading them and ensure that every shade of individual was carried along.
“As a leader, you must have good emotional intelligence to manage all shade of individuals that will have to work with you since you must delegate duties and cannot do all alone.
“Apart from its function in leadership, emotional intelligence can help in human group even at the family level so that unique individual members of a family are accommodate,” Ebiem, a pastor in Bethel City, Church, Enugu, said.
Speaking, Mr Solomon Okeke, Convener of Leadership Rebirth Conference, said that the conference was all about preparing youths for leadership positions and taking up positive challenges in the society.
He noted that the annual event reshapes the thinking of youths and refocus them to ideal of nation building and development.
Contributing, Mr Gideon Okeke, the Founder of Impactfield Global Youths Initiative, said that the initiative runs series of leadership and mentorship programmes in Enugu to prepare youths for leadership roles.
“We have used the platform of the yearly conference to mentor and groom future leaders and ensure that they take the part of honesty, humility, accountability and service in life,” he noted.
The conference was attended by hundreds of youths from the South-East and featured motivational speakers as well.
