The Rotary International District Governor , Rtn. Grace Okaro has revealed the ambition of her administration to establish Sickle cell screening centre and also carry out COVID-19 vaccination campaign across the District.
In her speech in Umuahia, Abia State shortly after she was installed as the 6th and first female District Governor, Okaro said that her administration plans to provide literacy and basic education materials in 15 identified secondary schools and to build a District Rotary centre in collaboration with any of the state government within the District that made the land available.
The Rotary International District Governor said that she will be dedicated to the cause of Rotary as the 6th and first female Governor of District 9142.
She pointed out that she will never derail from the task, as she has demonstrated her commitment over the past two decades since she was first inducted into the Club.
Speaking respectively, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu represented by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma and wife, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu also represented by the PDP candidate for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Barr. Mrs. Loveth Ofoegbu lauded the Rotary International for its service to humanity, pointing out that the Rotary activities complement that of the present administration in the State in making life more comfortable for the populace.
They pointed out that the Government clearly understood the message of Rotary and will always work with the organization, even as they encouraged Rtn. Okaro to use her tenure to create an enviable impact worthy of emulation on the society at large.
The former Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, who chaired the occasion, called for active participation of women in Rotary and other activities that will enhance the growth and progress of the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chair, Installation Planning Committee, Rtn. Onyii Wamah described the event as the first step in a year long journey of 2022-2023 Rotary year and as such, Rtn. Grace Okaro will expect unwavering support and partnership from Rotarians, Retractors and well-meaning Nigerians to create a more lasting impact in the communities.
