Ikpeazu To Mothers, Immunize Your Children

Wife of Abia State Governor, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has called on mothers and caregivers whose Children are above 12 months and have completed their immunization to visit healthcare facilities to improve their Children’s vitamin A status and General health.

Mrs Ikpeazu made the call during the Flag-off ceremony of “Round 1 2022 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health week” organized by the State Government in conjunction with the Primary Health Development Agency held at Aba South LGA headquarters.

Mrs Ikpeazu, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Nna Rose Urenta, said a renewed strategy and vigor was required in the fight against maternal and Child mortality which has remained on the increase, adding that the event would improve the health of Women of Child bearing age as well as Children under the age of 5years.

The Governor’s wife noted that the state government would support all activities that aimed at reducing the high rate of maternal mortality.

“That is why the government of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is leaving no stone unturned to see that out health care delivery system is number one and setting the pace for others throughout the country. This is examplified by the provision of MODEL healthcare centers in different wards”.

However, she encouraged all Healthcare workers to re-examine and update their knowledge, practical and interpersonal communication skills and attitudes to provide the needed leadership and technical support so as to make Healthcare services very attractive.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for health, Dr Joe Osuji, said the maternal, newborn and Child Health week was aimed at delivering an integrated package of highly cost effective yet result oriented, preventive and curative services which strengthens routine services at Health care facilities.

Osuji, represented by the Executive Secretary Abia Primary Health development Agency, Dr Chinagozi Adindu, said activities of the week event include; administering of vitamin A supplementation, routine immunization for children under 1, deworming of Children under 5, assessment of nutrition status and HIV testing services among others.

In his remarks, the Chairman Aba South LGA Hon Clinton Ebere, informed that the Ikpeazu led administration had initiated numerous programs in tackling Health challenges in the State and called on all to join in the fight.
