SUG Presidents assures Abia Govt. of peace in institutions as Ikpeazu reads riot act to students.

Student Union Government Presidents of tertiary institutions in Abia State, have assured the State government that they will maintain relative peace and tranquility in their various institutions as well as  sustain partnership with the government.

 

The Students’ Union Presidents of ABSU, Comrade John Nwakanma, that of Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture,Comrade Famous Otuonye and their Abia State Polytechnic counterpart, Comrade Onyema Chaidikaobi gave the assurance during a meeting with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at Government House Umuahia.

The meeting which was called at the instance of the State government was to address an incident where students reportedly attacked the office of the Traffic & Indiscipline Management Agency of Abia State (TIMAAS) in Umuahia .

Recall that an official of the agency was almost beaten to coma on the allegations that a student who violated traffic laws was arrested by the agency. It was reported that the said student made calls that led to other students coming to attack the TIMAAS office.

The students leaders who said they were not aware of the incident,apologized on behalf of the erring students and thanked the State Governor for exhibiting fatherly love by inviting them to the meeting as well as releasing the students involved in the attack from the police custody.

 

While reiterating their support for the Ikpeazu adminstration, they promised that such incident would not repeat itself,and further assured that they would caution their students from various institutions across the State on the dangers of taking laws into their hands.

 

In his remarks, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Anthony  Agbazuere warned that such action would not be condoned by the State government again and called on the student community across the State to be mindful of their actions in order not to run foul of the law adding that henceforth, the leadership would be held responsible for any of such  attack against government agencies.

The Governor cautioned people to refrain from  attacking government agencies but to always report their grievances to the appropriate quarters.

 

He charged the students to remain focused in their academic pursuit, assuring  them of continuous partnership and also commended them for their support to his administration, urging them to sustain it.

 

The meeting was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Enyinnaya Appolos,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Sopuruchi Bekee as well as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Mr. Emeka Ubani.
