The people’s Democratic party’s flag bearer in next year’s Abia Guber election, Prof Uche Ikonne has pledged to run an all inclusive government if elected as the governor of the state come 2023, maintaining that Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has led very solid foundation in all areas of the state, with particular emphasis on security, infrastructure and human capital development.
Prof Ikonne made the remarks at his Agburuike country home when the people of Isiala Ngwa North rolled out their drums in their thousands to give him a warm reception following his recent victory at the party’s primary election held in Umuahia.
He also used the occasion to thank them for their unrepentant, irrevocable and irreversible support towards his ambition and promised not to let them down if given the mandate to govern Abia.
He recalled the numerous achievements he recorded during his days as the Vice Chancellor of Abia state University Uturu, as well as the rector of Abia state Polytechnic Aba, and pledged to do more if elected as the Chief Executive of the state, and commended the organizers of the reception for such a well thought out initiative, adding that he didn’t expect anything less.
Prof Ikonne, in an emotional ladden voice, therefore took time to eulogize the Governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his relentless efforts in rebuilding the state, and enjoined all Abians to continue to support his administration till his last day in office.
Earlier in their remarks, the chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, The Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North, Elder Chinwendu Ochulor and the PDP LGA Chairman, Elder Sam Esindu said they came to formally receive him as their son after his landslide victory at the party’s primary election and to reassure him of their support towards clinching total victory at the polls in 2023, and adviced those who are bent on scuttling the governorship agenda to have a rethink.
Also contributing, the General manager of Abia state synage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA), Hon Tony Otuonye, the Isiala Ngwa North coordinator, Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organisation, Sir Chinanu Ogbunamiri and the party’s LGA woman Leader, Mrs. Justina Ikonne all thanked Abia delegates to the party’s primary election for massively casting their votes for Prof Uche Ikonne and assured of their continued support, while calling on all eligible voters in the state who are yet to acquire their Permanent Voter’s card to do so before the expiration of the exercise.
Other dignitaries who were present at the event include, the Deputy Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Chukwuma Amaike, Former transition committee Chairman of the council, Hon. Chimezie Okoronkwo, former executive Chairman of the council, Chief Friday Onukwue, Isiala Ngwa North PDP candidate for the state Assembly, Chief Collins Iheonunekwu, party ward Chairmen, serving councilors from Isiala Ngwa North among others were present to grace the occasion.
Highpoint of the event was the formal reception of over five hundred decampees from other political parties led by a former transition committee Chairman of the council and APGA stalwart, Hon. Ebere Ihuoma into the people’s Democratic party.
