Ahead of the PDP Primary Election, the Abia State Chapter of the party has released guidelines on how aspirants should conduct themselves, stating that the election will be done in an ‘Open Secret Ballot’ system.
The Party said aspirants caught defaulting party’s guidelines for the forth coming Primary elections according to the provisions of the PDP constitution would be severely dealt with by members of the Disciplinary committee.
Briefing the Press of the outcome of the meeting with the State PDP chairman,Rt.Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere and the over 200 Aspirants for the Abia State House of Assembly, the Federal House of Representatives,Senate and the Governorship seats, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Chief Fabian Nwankwo said the party after its meeting with the aspirants,urged them to conduct themselves in a civilized manner in line with the party’s constitution and the National Electoral Act.
The Publicity Secretary said the Primary elections which would be done in an open ballot system would only see through aspirants who have done their home work to convince delegates to vote for them.
Chief Nwankwo further stated that as part of guidelines for its Primary election, the party warned aspirants against thuggery, campaign of calumny, giving out false information regarding themselves and other aspirants,as well as, other forms of illegal activities that may jeopardize their chances of winning the primary elections and subsequent general elections.
He said if aspirants are found committed to attitude that are not in line with the electoral guidelines or party constitution such aspirants would be disqualified.
The Publicity Secretary further added that the disciplinary committee would be asked to do the needful against aspirants that go against party’s constitution, urging them to shun any act of intimidation against other aspirants.
He said vacancies that exist for the primary elections are only 36 seats in number while the Governorship seat is one, the senatorial seats are three, Federal House of Representatives seats are eight and twenty four seats for he State House of Assembly.
The Party, however, assured the Aspirants of a level playing grounds for them to contest under a free and fair atmosphere devoid of any preferred individual.
Meanwhile, various political Aspirants, Mazi Sampson Orji,Col Austine Akobundu (Rtd),Prof A.C.B Agbazuere,Chief Amaobi Ogah,Chief Ginger Onwusibe, Ukpai Nnanna Orji and others who spoke during the meeting, thanked the leadership of the party for enlightening them on the conduct of the forth coming primary elections and assured the party of a peaceful, orderly conduct of the elections and promised to support anyone that wins among them in the primary to also win in the general elections.
