More Aspirants Join 2023 Governorship Race Under PDP

 

No fewer than six aspirants have so far declared interest to join the governorship race in the forth coming gubernatorial election under the People’s Democratic Party.

With the declaration of Dr Sampson Orji (Scuorji), the toll of aspirants who have so far indicated interest to run for governorship under the PDP, have increased to six, with many others to declare before the close of  the sale of forms.


Dr Sampson Orji, popularly called Scuorji, who stormed the PDP secretariat in Umuahia with his array of supporters,said he is joining the governorship race to win but not at all cost.

In his declaration speech, Orji promised to run an open door policy, taking away the cover of mystery that refuses people access to the Governor.

According to him,he would simplify the office of the governor, running an all inclusive government.

The governorship aspirant stated that when elected, there will be massive road infrastructures in the state, coupled with a revitalized system where every sector would be functional.

The Abia North Aspirant stated that he is much aware of the paucity of funds in the state,but will go into partnership with companies,as well as adopt the Public Private Partnership (PPP) method and the Build,Operate and Transfer (BOT) to build roads in Abia.

He said in his tenure, the civil service would be revamped, bringing back its pride of place as a noble profession.

Orji noted that he would institute a process of reward and sanctions into the civil service,so as to restore sanity in the system.

“I will be holding quarterly town hall meetings, to discuss and explain to Abians how their monies are being spent and also give them opportunity to ask questions about the state’s finance.

“Accountability, transparency and credibility will be my watch word”,he said.

Responding, the PDP chairman, Rt.Hon Asiforo Okere, commended the qualities of Dr Sampson Orji, who he described as a distinguished personality, that made remarkable feats while serving as a member of the Abia House of Assembly.

The Party chairman, while assuring Orji,as well as other aspirants of a level playing ground,urged them to go and mobilize support ahead of the party primaries.
