Youths numbering over hundred, today paraded the streets of Umuahia Metropolis, calling on the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, to declare for Abia governorship for the forth coming gubernatorial election.
The youths under the umbrella of Ikukufied Youth Movement, Abia State chapter, were seen parading major streets of Umuahia city centre with large banners with inscriptions “We want Ikukuoma for Governor of Abia State come 2023”, “We want youth inclusive in elective position in 2023”.
According to them, they believe in the candidature of the Speaker, who they said is the only person that can create a change among the youth,as well as chat a course of youth emancipation.
In an interview with journalists, the Spokesperson of the Ikukufied Youth Movement, Ike Bishop, said the youths are calling on the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, to run for the Abia Governorship position, because of the numerous contributions he has made for the state.
Ike Bishop said the reason behind the endorsement of Rt. Hon Chinedu Orji as the next Governor of Abia, came because the Speaker over time has showed capacity, making him eminently qualified to become Abia next Governor.
The group’s spokesperson, further informed the Press that the Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, is the only young person within the system that can win the governorship tussle, create a change in Abia and also uplift the youths..
He stressed that ” We are looking for youth inclusiveness.Ikuku is a youth.If we want a change, we need a young person.
“Ikuku has the capacity to lead Abia.He has done well as a Legislator.We know if he becomes a Governor,he will do marvellously well”,he added.
Bishop revealed that Rt. Hon.Chinedum Orji has empowered people, with the most recent, which is the training of over 1500 Abia youths in ICT and the distribution of Laptops and other gadgets to them.
On the issue of the PDP governorship zoning, the group stated that good a thing the party has zoned her governorship ticket to Abia Central and North, making Ikuku qualified to run.
He, however, questioned the readiness of Abia North to take over power, disclosing that GGG I nobody from the zone is pushing to take power.
The group was later received by the immediate past commissioner for Lands, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu,who promised to relay their call to the Speaker.
