NLC, NULGE Protest Non Passage of Financial Autonomy In Rivers

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the National Union of Local government Employees (NULGE), under the aegis of Organized labour in Rivers State on Wednesday marched to the State House of Assembly today to rally support for the Local Government, Judiciary, and Legislative autonomy.

Clad in their various union attires, they carried placards, with the inscription “yes to full autonomy of state houses of assembly, Judiciary and local government’’.

Chairperson of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Rivers State, Beatrice Itubo said they want the House to vote in support of the autonomy bills recently passed by the joint session of the National Assembly during the constitution amendment.

Recall that the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN had threatened to shut down any State House of Assembly that votes against legislative autonomy.

According to her, financial autonomy to the local government, judiciary, legislature and total administration autonomy to the local government, will boost the economy, create employment for proper action.
