The Fuel scarcity being experienced in Nigeria is biting harder in Rivers State, as residents are decrying the effect.
This is just as the state has witnessed rapid increment of price in all sector especially market and transportation within the city following the rise in price of fuel.
Our reporter who monitored developments in the state reports that in Ogoni axis of the state, fuel is being sold N270 per liter, while in the state capital, Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor, most filling stations are shut, while the few that are dispensing products are witnessing long queues, as they sold between N210 to N220 per litre despite the supply of products on Sunday as announced by the state ministry of energy and natural resources.
Most filling stations along Ikwerre Road, Ada-George, Aba Road, Eagle Island and Old Port Harcourt Township are not open for business, as they have probably run out of stock.
It would be recalled that the state Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Joseph Obele had decried that out of 18 depots in Rivers state, only one had products, which is not sufficient to service over 700 marketers in the state.
Transport fare in the state according to our findings, has increased between N50 to N100 at every bus-stop.
Motorists and transporters who spoke to our reporters expressed displeasure at scarcity of fuel and return of queues to filling stations.
Meanwhile, the Petroleum Product Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, has explained that the recent queues in petrol stations in Port Harcourt was as a result of the bad petrol imported into the country last month.
