Chukwuemeka Chijioke
Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, adjourned plenary indefinitely due to a rowdy session that took a center stage in the hallowed Chambers today.
This came on the heels of a motion as a matter of urgency raised by the member representing Ukwa East State Constituency and the deputy majority leader of the 7th Assembly, Hon. Paul Taribo, who bitterly expressed that the deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu and the Majority Leader, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu be relieved of their duties citing incompetence and negligence of their duties as a point of reference.
Speaking further, he pointed out that the welfare of the lawmakers has not been duly put into consideration and visited accordingly which majority of the members concurred and supported his motion.
The minority leader, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, member representing, Aba South State Constituency, Hon. Obinna Ichitta, member representing Obingwa West State Constituency, Hon. A.C. Thomas Nkoro, and many others subscribed to the motion and strongly agitated that the duo must be impeached.
However, this sensitive and critical matter, therefore degenerated into strong disagreement amongs the members and the Speaker, thereby causing commotion in the House.
Hence, the Speaker, as a matter of urgency managed to suspend the plenary indefinitely due to the unhealthy circumstance that casually beclouded the sitting today.
Meanwhile, all efforts made to get some principal members to speak with newsmen proved abortive as none of them were willing to comment on the crisis as at the time of this report.
