Ashleigh Barty broke a 44 year-old jinx when she defeated American, Danielle Collins to win the women’s Australian Open title. She became the first Australian to win the women’s singles title since 1978 when Chris O’Neil won the title.
Barty defeated Collins 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to break the jinx.
Barty won the first set over the American Collins in just 32 minutes but had to fight her way back from a 1-5 second set deficit to win in a tiebreaker.
The next Grand Slam of the year will be the French Open which will hold between May 16 and June 5, 2022.
